We used Fontenot Contracting to remodel our kitchen and bathroom and substantially re-wire our apartment in 2005. We could not possibly be happier with the results. Not only was the work of impeccable quality, but I could not have asked for more in terms of professionalism from Dave or his crew.
In addition to Dave's obvious skills on the construction side, he is very well organized and has a natural talent for project management. At the start of the job Dave produced a spreadsheet that identified all the tasks to be performed and identified areas of risk where there may be unknowns, such as what may be discovered once the kitchen was stripped down to the studs or what may lie under the bathroom sub floor etc.
Throughout the job he maintained the spreadsheet as an ongoing plan, so there was complete transparency. We always fully understood what work had been completed and what remained to be done. He also, at our request categorized various options so we could make decisions based on our budget.
Regarding the job itself, the workmanship is first class. His sub-contractors were fantastic. They always arrived when they said they would and the quality of their work was outstanding.
We could not be happier.
After living in our historic Newton home for more than 21 years, we employed Fontenot Contracting to renovate and improve our property in preparation for sale. We have done several high quality renovations over the years on our home and have a built a new vacation home on Cape Cod, however we have never encountered a more intelligent, organized or communicative general contractor than Dave Fontenot. Amazingly, completion was on time and on budget. The level of detail and transparency in Dave's budgeting was so truly remarkable it was always clear we were being dealt with honestly and fairly. He had many interesting and sophisticated recommendations for us and was extremely competent in dealing with the idiosyncrasies of an older home. His site manager was always professional and courteous and his subs were top-notch. We would recommend Fontenot Contracting for any job, large or small, and are confident that all who employ this company will be pleased with the relationship and the results.
Fontenot Contracting renovated every part of our 100 year old two family house. Each step of the process was explained fully and done professionally. The results look fantastic, and every day we love our new home.
Dave worked with us during every stage of the process, always making sure that we understood our options and worked with us to keep costs within our budget. We iterated through multiple floor plans and various options in terms of additions. In the end, Dave was able to increase the size of our bathroom and guest bedroom substantially by extending the rear of our house. Dave also opened up our floor plan, changing the existing galley kitchen into a large kitchen and great room, which is now the beautiful center piece of our home.
Throughout the process, we were impressed with Fontenot Contracting's communication and project planning. Dave's attention to detail helped us to navigate our way through our first renovation. Our new home is not only beautiful, but it is also very comfortable and livable. We are extremely appreciative of everything that Fontenot Contracting did for us! We recommend Dave and his team without hesitation.

I have had the pleasure of employing Fontenot Contracting for two kitchen + bathroom renovation projects. On both occasions, Dave Fontenot delivered accurate estimates and detailed schedules, and he provided plenty of expert advice as well. His crews were always diligent and courteous, and both projects were completed on-budget within an aggressive timeline. I recommend Fontenot Contracting whole-heartedly!
When our family moved back to New England, we wanted a property that we could completely renovate to our personal standards. When we realized the complexities of a major renovation, we started looking for someone with the appropriate experience to help us understand the budget requirements and options to complete a large and complex construction project.
Dave Fontenot worked with us before we went to contract on our property to help us understand the size of the financial commitment required to make our vision of the property become a reality. Daveís patience, professionalism and comprehensive knowledge were invaluable to us during this phase.
Once we owned the property, Dave created detailed proposals that clearly laid out what was to be done and the associated costs. More importantly, Dave was able to communicate with us in laymanís terms which made the process of making additions and subtractions to the project plan simple and straightforward.
Finally, despite manufacturer delays outside of Daveís control, Dave and his team brought the project in on time and on budget.
If you are looking for a knowledgeable general contractor with superior customer focus and communication skills who can create and deliver a project with tremendous value and timeliness, I heartily recommend you call Fontenot Contracting. Working with Dave and his crew was truly a pleasure.

We have remodeled two houses with Fontenot Contracting and both experiences have been positive in every way. We found Dave Fontenotís extensive bid to be very helpful in letting us know what the final cost would be. His timeline was accurate. He was always available to answer any questions or address any concerns we had. It was a pleasure to work with someone you could trust.
Our first house project consisted of a new roof, adding air conditioning, substantially re-wiring the house, new replacement windows, converting a three season porch into heated living space, remodeling the kitchen, an addition on the second floor for a master bath room, and a vault to the master bedroom ceiling. Dave had some excellent ideas on how to make both spaces more interesting. He saw that the attic space above the master bedroom could be used to create a vaulted ceiling in the master bedroom which made the bedroom seem much larger. He turned a small unusable space off the bedroom into a large elegant bathroom.
When we bought our second home he came to look at it before we bought it and gave us a good idea of what would be required to bring it into the modern era without loosing the charm of our 115 year old home. This project consisted of full renovation of the interior and exterior of the home. The project consisted of all new plumbing with dedicated supply lines to each bathroom, all new wiring with an underground 400A service to the house, a kitchen remodel with custom cabinets, and remodeling five and a half bathrooms. There was a new addition to the rear of the house that created a new mudroom, an attached garage, and additional room on the second floor for a large walk-in master closet and bathroom. The addition was consistent with the architecture of the original house. Dave once again gave us a binder which detailed his bid and he followed it as we went along. There were a few architectural surprises during the project but because of his training as an engineer he solved those for us with minimal expense. Once again he and his crew were on time, always available for taking care of our concerns, and made us feel that we could trust all of them to make our home beautiful. The finished product is stunning. I would recommend him to anyone interested in remodeling or an addition.
We have used Fontenot Contracting for major projects in our house and been very pleased with their work. What stands out is their professionalism in all aspects of the contracting process, from initial estimation to actual work execution to project wrap-up. Dave takes the time to really understand what we want, and what we're less keen on, to tailor the design and also make the cost trade-offs so we're getting just what we want at the best possible cost. They have also been excellent at communicating with us each step of the way, and always responsive to our feedback and suggestions. I would highly recommend Fontenot Contracting for any project, large or small, and will certainly continue to work with them for my needs.

I engaged with Fontenot contracting on a number of occasions while renovating my Victorian house in Arlington. Their attention to detail and communication was evident throughout the process Ė from the initial proposal through to completion. All the costs were clearly outlined and options for cost reduction were suggested at every juncture. Davidís design abilities were also hugely valuable as they ensured that money was spent where it mattered most. The quality of the workmanship throughout was excellent while the projects were completed on time and in budget. Any issues were dealt with immediately. I would have no hesitation in engaging with Fontenot Contracting again on a project of any scale.
The first major project Fontenot Contracting completed for us had several components. First, they replaced more than 75 old drafty double hung windows with beautiful and efficient Marvin windows. Then they reshingled, insulated, and painted the entire three-story house. New tile floors, beadboard, and molding were installed in a sun room and exterior porch. For ten years, we tried to have central air conditioning installed in our 1915 house. Dave took on the challenge and successfully completed the task. He was also instrumental in replacing our heating system, helping us switch from oil to a new efficient gas burner. Fontenot Contracting helped guide us through the process every step of the way. Each job was completed with an excellent eye for detail, and impeccable craftmanship. We are extremely pleased with the final results.

We hired Fontenot Contracting to work with an architectural designer to do the first phase of renovating our home so that we could "age in place". The project included relocating the cellar laundry to the one full bath we had on the second floor, changing a bedroom into a full bath with all sorts of grab bars, comfort height toilets, a separate bathtub and walk-in shower, and gutting and completely redoing the kitchen. Finally we added on a sizeable back porch to the kitchen which was carefully integrated into the design of this old house.
We chose Dave because of his pleasant manner, his very detailed proposal and our understanding that he would adhere to schedule and price as much as possible. The job went smoothly with his skilled carpenter crew on hand every morning. My husband and I remained in the house during construction and the crew was considerate of our need for privacy and order. They maintained a fairly tidy site albeit that all this was going on during late fall and winter. The scheduling of subcontractors went well, and when problems arose regarding design, materials or needs for changes, Dave was readily on hand to straighten things out. He has been most attentive to small post-construction problems.
There were two additional projects (redoing a bulkhead and replacing the front stairs) that we added to his original proposal. These were done promptly so that the project finished pretty much on schedule and on target re price.
We would be happy to hire him again and to recommend him to others.

We consulted Fontenot Contracting before buying our house. There was significant renovation required and we wanted to understand options as well as high level budget. Based on Dave's recommendations, we made the decision to buy the house and worked closely with him to develop detailed renovation options based on budget and preferences. Dave is extremely professional, organized, and insightful so this process allowed us to weigh the pros/cons of the different options to come up with the right renovation plan. As the extensive renovation was executed, Dave worked with us to make modifications that helped improve on the original plan while keeping to target budget and schedule. The Fontenot contracting team was wonderful to deal with and took expert care throughout the renovation. We are extremely happy with the house and highly recommend Fontenot contracting.
Working with Dave Fotenot and Fontenot Contracting Company was a rewarding experience. Dave oversaw two major projects at our Victorian home in 2009. The first was a complete residing with the addition of many design elements. The second was the rebuilding of both the front and rear porches to our home. We can honestly say that our home went from being one of the ugliest in our West Newton neighborhood to one of the most attractive.
In addition, Dave and the skilled carpenters that he employs were able to successfully address a number of troubled areas of our house, including areas of rot. We have recommended Fontenot Contracting to several other friends and neighbors, and will continue to do so in the future. The work he does is of top quality, and he is honest and able to adjust plans to fit his customers' wants and needs.
